St. Francis House commits to serve
more as it marks 23rd anniversary
Who is St. Francis?
He is the patron of children who are abandoned and in need of love and care.
Hence, the St. Francis House in Pasonanca has committed to serve more by taking care of the abandoned children not only in Zamboanga City but other parts of the Zamboanga Peninsula as it celebrated its 23rd year anniversary last October 2.
A thanksgiving celebration was held in the evening of Oct. 2 at the St. Francis House orphanage in Pasonanca with its founder Fr. Arthur Winikoff leading in the celebration.
Highlighting the evening's affair was the presentation of the renewed permit for the St. Francis House to operate its orphanage center from the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
City officials, business and civic leaders graced the celebration with the over 90 orphans and wards of the St. Francis House in attendance. Zamboanga City's 1st District Congresswoman Maria Isabel Climaco-Salazar gave her message while Atty. Linda Eustaquio-Lim spoke for and behalf of the business and other benefactors of the orphanage center. City Councilors Al Jihan Edding and Rudy Bayot also mingled with the guests and wards.
"We started from nothing and through faith we have reached this far," said Fr. Winikoff who began the project in Zamboanga City in 1987 and now the orphanage is operating with an annual P5 million budget.
Hundreds of orphans have been served by the St. Francis House and many of them have graduated and have their own families now.
