Orphans introduced to Scouting

Eighty-five orphans from the St. Francis House have just been introduced to the Scouting Movement last Saturday afternoon (Oct. 30) as October was being commemorated as Scouting Month in the Philippines.
Forty-two of the orphans were administered for the first time to the Boy Scouts of the Philippines while forty-three others were registered, also for the first time, to the Girl Scouts of the Philippines.
The St. Francis House, an orphanage being operated by the Victory Mission Foundation at Pasonanca, Zamboanga City for the past 23 years now, decided to allow its wards to join the Scouting Movement to help form the values and characters of the orphans.

Fr. Arthur Winikoff, founder of the foundation, is now the Scouting Institute representative to the Boy Scouts of the Philippines, with Scouters Bong Bue and Rony Lledo and Architect Felipe Sy as the Scouting Institute chairman and vice chairmen, respectively. Marissa Basilio is the St. Francis House Scouts' coordinator with Joseph Van Bue, former BSP's 10 Outstanding Scouts, as troop leader and Vincent Jan T. Bue as assistant troop leader.
The GSP investiture ceremony was administered by Conchita Barredo, GSP Zamboanga City council scout executive, while the BSP investiture rite was officiated by Scouter Gilbert Vargas representing the BSP Zamboanga City Council.
The scouting troop is named as St. Francis Scouts, the first Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts groups composed of orphans. Their weekly scouting day is every Saturday afternoon at the St, Francis House compound.
