Breast cancer survivors give
Christmas treat to orphans

"We thought it would be wise if we share happiness to others."

This is the reason for the early Christmas treat tendered by a local group of breast cancer survivors to the orphans at the St. Francis House Drop-In Center in Camanchile Road, Zamboanga City last Sunday (Dec. 5).

The Western Mindanao Breast Cancer Action Inc. (WMBCA) headed by its president Mrs Eleanor S. Francisco tendered an early Christmas party to the wards of the St Francis House Drop-In Center as a way of showing their gratitude for being breast cancer survivors.

Francisco said this is the first time they decided to tender Christmas party to the orphans as they decided to go away from their usual Christmas party of celebrating it among themselves.

The group of about 42 breast cancer survivors revealed that there was more satisfaction in sharing happiness particularly to the needy ones like the St Francis House's wards who don't have their parents.

Christmas gifts, food and other fun activities highlighted the affair which was also attended by St. Francis House administrator Marissa Basilio and house father Nezo Sumalinog.

The group, which was established in 1999 in Zamboanga City, has Dr Marissa Lim as its adviser and the following as its current officers: president- Francisco, vice president- Evangeline Bongay, secretary- Florence Alcazar, treasurer- Geraldine Valerio.

The St. Francis House, which is operated by the Our Blessed Mother of Victory Mission Foundation Inc., was established in Zamboanga City by Canadian priest Fr. Arthur Winikoff in 1987. Now the orphanage has almost 100 wards at Pasonanca and at its Camanchile's Drop In Center.
